Left hand slapping is carried out by simply smacking the strings against the fingerboard with the fingers of your left hand. By doing so, you obtain a new percussive effect employing the slapping technique. On the score it is marked with an “X”, and in order to be distinguished from dead notes, the symbol “L” (for left) is added above the stave. Left hand slapping shouldn’t be considered as a substitute for dead notes, but as a supplement to them! This course provides a video demonstration example and two technical exercises with their corresponding recordings, as well as eight grooves and basslines you can play along to backing tracks.
