Playing the Open Hi-Hat

The open hi-hat sound on on-beats or off-beats allows you to decorate your drum grooves with numerous ornaments. The main difficulty consists in synchronizing the movement of the left foot with that of the right hand. The open hi-hat is common in rock, soul, and funk, and is also very popular in disco. This course provides a video demonstration example, four technical exercises with their corresponding recordings, as well as six drum grooves you can play along to backing tracks.
