Walking Basslines

Basslines in jazz are often called “walking basslines”. They provide steady harmonic and rhythmic support for the rest of the band. The rhythm is simple, consisting primarily of quarter notes and occasionally some triplet figures. For easier understanding, all examples here are based on the I-VI-II-V progression in C major (Cmaj7-Am7-Dm7-G7). This course provides a video demonstration example, as well as ten grooves and basslines you can play along to backing tracks.
